Albert Sabin was a Polish-American virologist who developed the oral polio vaccine (OPV), which became the dominant form of polio immunization worldwide due to its ease of administration and ability to induce intestinal immunity. Born in Bialystok, Poland, he immigrated to the United States in 1921 and also made significant contributions to research on dengue fever, encephalitis, and toxoplasmosis.
