Adel Mahmoud was an Egyptian-American physician and vaccinologist who led the development of the rotavirus vaccine (RotaTeq) and HPV vaccine (Gardasil) as president of Merck Vaccines. These two vaccines alone have prevented millions of deaths worldwide from cervical cancer and childhood diarrheal disease.
