Ameyo Adadevoh was a Nigerian endocrinologist who single-handedly prevented a catastrophic Ebola outbreak in Lagos in 2014. She diagnosed the index case Patrick Sawyer, quarantined him against enormous pressure, and contained the virus, saving potentially millions of lives in Africa's most populous city. She contracted Ebola and died in the line of duty.
